New grout usually needs about 72 hours cure before water or oil based sealer can be applied

Because sealing grout is not usually a job performed by tile contractors it generally does not get done after the tile and grout are installed. It would require a return to the job site several days after the grout is applied, resulting in additional expenses in materials and time.

This is the problem with over 90% of new tile and grout installation. Without a proper sealent, dirt and grime become embedded in the pores of the grout.
